Ground-breaking news – Sitting is the new smoking!!

A recent study found that irrespective of if you meet the Chief Medical Officers recommendation for physical activity (i.e. hit the gym 3-5 times a week), this is not enough to offset the health risks associated with being ‘sedentary’ throughout the day.  Sitting for long periods of time is now recognised as a risk factor for premature mortality (more commonly known as early death!).

Think about it, how often do you sit?.  Sitting to eat, watch tv, relax and even while driving all of these behaviours you can modify but what if your academic or career demands that you sit at a desk all day???, is this out of your control??

NO  (and before you ask, standing isn’t enough either) – so what do you do?

Put quite simply, MOVE!!!!.  Movement is the key and its not as hard as you think.  Come along to a specially designed, fun, interactive workshop designed to give you five-minute innovative movement solutions that can be easily implemented into your daily schedule without impacting productivity and dare I say it, the many reported ‘side effects’ of movement increased brain function, concentration, productivity and longevity (all of these things should be important to you & your boss!).

Workshops are suitable for all abilities.  Spaces are limited therefore booking is recommended to guarantee your space.  All workshops are delivered by exercise prescription practitioners registered with the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity. Please see healthy campus schedule for staff & student workshops.
