Body MOT for Staff

School of Sport and Exercise Science third year undergraduate student Jess Slater is running a small clinic to provide University staff with health screening assessments.

The screenings will include height, weight, blood pressure, grip strength and peak flow. Following the assessment, Jess will make recommendations on how to improve your health and lifestyle. She has received specific training from the academic team in the School to help run this project.

The clinic will run on Wednesday 8th March for Healthy Campus Week between the following times:

Quit Smoking Stand

Visit the 'Quit51' team on the Ground Floor Atrium who will be sharing information on services available to those who wish to quit smoking.

Dental Hygiene Stand

Come and talk to a professional dental hygiene team for information on oral health.

Please be aware that this stand is to promote awareness of preventative measures and to give individuals advice. No dental examinations will be carried out.

Yoga for All

The benefit of coming to a class is that you can share energy, experience, warmth and humour together. Something you won’t get from a book or a DVD. Practising yoga regularly will help you to improve your flexibility and strength and reduce your stress levels.

You can just turn up to these sessions, bring some comfy clothes to change into including something warm for the relaxation at the end of the session.

Walk & Talk

Do you tend to spend of your lunch break at your desk? Is there always a reason why you can’t get away? If the answer is yes, you are not the only one. However, taking regular breaks helps improve concentration, and according to a study published by the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine being active during your lunch break is just what you need to clear your head and get your focus back.

Weather permitting, meeting place at 12.30pm outside the Minerva building next to the map stand (outside the Swan) for a 30 minute leisurely lunch time walk. A great opportunity to get out in the fresh air, connect with others and have a chat. Everyone is welcome. No booking required. Free Fairtrade chocolate bars for the first five people to turn up.

Improving Posture and Moving Well (Bitesize)

Posture and movement are about more than just muscles, ligaments and bones. Our intention, thinking habits and emotions also play their part. Learn how your awareness of feelings and movement habits can help you to move more easily and reduce aches, pains and injury.
