Laughter Yoga hits the UK!

Laughter Yoga has been around for over 20 years but has only just started to be practiced in the UK. Here at the University we offer free Laughter Yoga sessions for staff and students every Monday lunchtime at 12.30pm led by a member of staff who is also a qualified Laughter Yoga Leader.

We would love to introduce new people to the benefits of Laughter Yoga so you’re most welcome to come along to the Monday session on March 6th at 12.30pm in room MB2603 (Second Floor Minerva Building) as part of our Healthy Campus Week. Laughter Yoga is an easy to follow session suitable for everyone. No special clothing or skills are required – if you can breathe you can laugh! The session lasts around 20 – 25 minutes and consists of a warm up and a number of short exercises which are easy to follow. The session finishes with an optional five minute meditation at the end to send you into your afternoon with a smile on your face and a lightness in your step.

Why do it? 20 minutes of Laughter Yoga (Hasyayoga) can not only put you in a cheerful mood for the rest of the day, but it can also have a positive impact on your health and wellbeing. Based on the scientific fact that our bodies cannot differentiate between fake and real laughter, studies have shown that Laughter Yoga can lower blood pressure and stress levels, as well as significantly increase pain thresholds. Developed in the 1990s by Indian physician Dr Madan Kataria,

Please come along and have a go!
